COLLECTION OF PERSONAL THINGS
A collage of watercolor illustrations of personal clothes bought in 2017.
Before I moved to Asia, I read a lot about minimalism which helped me to create my own values for clothes. To be able to move freely, I donated and sold most of my things, including my clothes. I already had two closets full of clothes bought at the Hong Kong markets for little money and other souveniers, memories, and occasions materialised in fabric. I felt it was overwhelming to own so much. I could not keep up with caring for my clothes.
For two years, I lived with only about two suitcases. This was neccessary to start a new life. I accumulated more things by now as this is part of the process of settling in and building a cosy home. But I still don't go back to the mountains of stuff I used to have. I treaure my clothes much more and sometimes also make illustrations of them to shift the focus on what I have.
